How much do sessions cost?
I charge $100 per 45-minute session and $130 per 60-minute session. I charge $75 for missed appointments or those cancelled within 24 hours. I additionally offer limited low-income sessions for those who do not have insurance coverage and cannot afford out of pocket costs. Please see the page on low-income sessions for more information.
What insurance companies do you work with?
As of April 1st 2022, I accept CDPHP, MVP, Fidelis Care, Highmark – Blue Shield of Northeastern NY, Anthem – Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Cigna. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your insurance company’s member services representative.
What can I expect during my first appointment?
I use the first session to introduce myself and the process of counseling and to learn more about you as a person. You will be able to ask any questions about the counseling process in order to ensure that I will be the right fit for you. I often find that mental health concerns naturally emerge in our initial conversations. It will help me serve you more fully to gain context about your interests, supports, and other factors that influence your everyday life.
How long and how frequent are my sessions?
Sessions typically run between 45 and 60 minutes. You and I will determine a suggested frequency of appointments during your first session, based on your needs and my scheduling availability. Since both of these factors are subject to change over time, I will ask you about your preferences prior to scheduling each subsequent appointment.
Is everything I tell you confidential?
There are few cases in which I am permitted to break your privacy, which are required by law. In these circumstances, I will inform you first, unless safety indicates otherwise. These include: risk of suicidal or homicidal action; abuse or neglect toward a child, elder, or person with disabilities; and in cases of my records being subject to subpoena. In addition to this, I receive professional supervision, in which I discuss select cases for feedback and further guidance. In supervision, all potentially identifying information is removed to protect your privacy.
Do you offer telehealth appointments?
As of October 1st 2021, I do not offer telehealth appointments. Understanding the benefit and need for these services in the modern world, I am currently exploring available options to offer telehealth appointments in an user-friendly and secure manner. This page will be updated to reflect the most current information.
How long have you been a therapist?
I completed my graduate studies in 2015. This included a 1-year clinical practicum program. Since then, I have worked within child-trauma and substance-abuse settings under clinical supervision until earning my full license in mental health counseling in 2019.
What treatment modalities do you prefer to use?
I use the evidence-based methods of cognitive-behavioral and dialectical-behavioral therapies. Each of these help an individual develop a more accurate view of the world around them, with which they may better manage their emotions, increase stress tolerance, and remain in the present moment. My counseling philosophy is based in existentialism, which focuses on an individual’s deepest motivations, needs, and fears as vehicles for positive change.
What are your practices when it comes to diagnosis of specific conditions?
I believe that diagnosis is a tool that has the potential to be helpful or harmful in the therapeutic process. For this reason, I typically do not offer formal diagnosis as a part of my practice. Instead, I offer psychoeducation about mental health, symptoms, and specific disorders, but this is often informal and used for the purposes of laying a foundation or further treatment.
Do you manage medications?
Due to my credentials, I am not permitted to supervise medication management in any capacity. I am willing to work with your medical providers to offer my clinical insights at your request.
Do you participate in custody hearings for minors?
I do not participate in custody disputes and hearings for minors. For my adolescent clients, the legal process has the potential to put the therapeutic relationship at risk. For adult clients, I cannot act as an unbiased party, as I only hear from one person’s perspective. If I am expected to participate in legal proceedings on your behalf, I charge $300 per hour, including preparation work, travel, and participation in events.
What resources will I have access to outside of our sessions?
I happily provide psychoeducational and self-help resources for clients who wish to have additional support between sessions. For your convenience, I ask that you request these resources during our session so that I may prepare them as soon as possible for you. If you are unable to do so, please see the additional resources page for more options.
Do you have contacts with various help lines if I’m in a crisis now?
If you are in an immediate crisis, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. For additional crises, please see the additional resources page for more options.
